The people at Kartemquin have been making engrossing, socially-conscious documentary films since 1966. Their most famous is Hoop Dreams, "the best film of the 1990's," according to Roger Ebert. They received a 2007 MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions, and a Peabody award, in 2008, for Mapping Stem Cell Research: Terra Incognita.
